Mark Lemstrom attended California State University in Hayward, CA where he earned a BA in music in 2003. While there he studied trombone and composition. Influence and teachers of composition were Dave Eshelman and Frank LaRocca. Two of his compositions were recorded on CSUH’s double disc “Excursions.” Other influential composition teachers outside the university include: Chuck Owen in Tampa, Fl and Ben Schwendener in Boston, MA. Mark is a registered with ASCAP and has received recognition from ASCAP for his composition “When You’re Around I Get the Blues.”
Mark enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1994 serving as a trombonist and arranger performing and writing for a wide variety of musical ensembles, styles and venues all over the United States and abroad. He is currently stationed on beautiful Oahu, HI. Having a lifetime passion for all musical theories, Mark has recently become an avid student of the Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization; a theory of music developed by the late George Russell.
